治人事天莫若啬。夫唯啬，是谓早服。早服谓之重积德，重积德则无不克，无不克则莫知其极，莫知其极可以有国，有国之母可以长久。

治理人民、侍奉天道，没有比啬更好的了。正因为啬，所以才叫早服。早服就是重视积累德行，重视积累德行则无往不胜，无往不胜则无人知晓其极限，不知其极限就可以保有国家，拥有国家的根本就可以长久。这就叫做深根固柢，长生久视之道。

此章强调啬之道——收敛、蓄积、不妄用。早服者，先得道也；重积德者，厚养根基也。根深则叶茂，德厚则长久。

我常急于求成、耗散精力，不知蓄势待发之道。啬不是吝啬，而是珍惜根本、涵养深厚，以待时机。
