Chapter 47
Knowing Without Going
Original
不出户,知天下;不窥牖,见天道。其出弥远,其知弥少。
是以圣人不行而知,不见而名,不为而成。
是以圣人不行而知,不见而名,不为而成。
Translation
Without going out the door, you can know the whole world. Without looking out the window, you can see the Tao of heaven. The farther you go, the less you know. Thus the sage knows without traveling, understands without seeing, and achieves without doing.
Deep Reflection
What is this chapter about?
This chapter teaches that true wisdom comes from inner stillness and intuition, not from external seeking or accumulating experiences.
How does it relate to me?
It encourages me to trust my inner knowing and quiet reflection, rather than always looking for answers outside myself.
What should I do today?
Today, I will sit in silence for ten minutes, observing my thoughts without judgment. Instead of seeking answers outside, I will trust the wisdom that arises from within.
