In governing people and serving heaven, there is nothing like frugality. Only by being frugal can one submit early. Submitting early means accumulating virtue heavily. Accumulating virtue heavily means overcoming all obstacles. Overcoming all obstacles means reaching the unknown limit. Reaching the unknown limit enables one to possess the kingdom. Possessing the mother of the kingdom enables one to endure long. This is called deep roots and firm foundations, the way of long life and lasting vision.

What is this chapter about?
Frugality—restraint and conservation—is the key to effective leadership and personal cultivation. It builds deep reserves of virtue, leading to resilience, mastery, and longevity.
How does it relate to me?
I often overextend myself with busyness and consumption. This chapter teaches me that conserving energy and focusing on what truly matters gives me deeper strength and clarity.
What should I do today?
Today, I will practice frugality by saying no to one unnecessary activity or purchase, saving my energy for what truly nourishes me.
For regulating the human (in our constitution) and rendering the (proper) service to the heavenly, there is nothing like moderation. It is only by this moderation that there is effected an early return (to man's normal state). He who possesses the mother of the state may continue long.
